MILKBAR
For Kipseli Architects, the design of a commercial space is a storyline between architecture, scenography and visual communication.
The basic design concept of the Milk (Tsiou) Bar was based on a spontaneous rather humorous translation of its address, which is located on Galatsiou Avenue in Athens, Greece. In Greek, the word "Galatsiou", conceals the word "milk" and the word “tweet”, which is the sound that the birds do. Ironically, this is how the basic concept was born.
The focal design element is the bar, which is open from all sides and brings together all the basic services: coffee, alcohol and music. A black-and-white bar inspired by the 50s and the milk bars of Greek refugees in Australia. The central bar is surrounded by the seating area which is developed indoors and outdoors. The aim was to simulate a surreal garden where a variety of architectural and scenic elements of natural and artificial materials, colors, shapes, patterns and an enchanting play between light, shadow and reflection, create a more relaxed and comfortable atmosphere that contrasts with the intensity and the pulse of the main bar. The design of the milk bar was an opportunity for Kipseli Architects to experiment with the dipole of entertainment and relaxation in an all day bar.
People want to flirt, play, disport themselves and take their minds off any problems they may have but another moment they want to relax, communicate and enjoy drinking their coffee. Milk Bar gives the visitor the opportunity to lose his identity and become the main character of a season movie or at the same time become an unseen hero, hidden inside an imaginary garden.
